Collection: 🌸 Saskatoon Berries
Saskatoon Berry Collection – Hardy to Zone 1/2
Saskatoon berries (Amelanchier alnifolia) are a prairie classic - incredibly hardy, deeply flavourful, and dependable in cold Canadian climates. Reliable to Zone 1/2, these shrubs thrive across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and other northern regions, producing generous mid-summer harvests year after year.
We offer three outstanding varieties: Lee #3, Lee #8, and Northline.
Lee #3 and Lee #8 were developed in Barrhead, Alberta by Lloyd Lee, selected for consistent yields, compact growth, and excellent flavour. Lee #3 ripens early July, extending the season, while Lee #8 follows mid-July with especially large, flavourful berries. Both are well-suited to smaller yards, backyard orchards, and food forests.
Northline, released in 1960 by the Beaverlodge Research Station, has been a prairie favourite for over 50 years. Known for its rich sweet-tart balance, large berries, and heavy clusters, it remains a top choice for fresh eating, preserving, U-pick operations, and the classic Saskatoon berry pie.
Saskatoons are high in antioxidants, excellent for fresh eating, baking, freezing, and preserving, and begin bearing fruit within three to five years. Ideal for food forests, edible shelterbelts, and cold-climate orchards.
