Harvest rich flavour with the Summer Red apple, a BC-bred cross of McIntosh and Golden Delicious that brings the best of both parents to your prairie garden.
These handsome apples catch the eye with their vibrant streaked deep red colouring with distinctive white spotting. Soft pink tones bleed gently into the white flesh. The crisp and juicy flesh delivers a sweet, refreshing taste with a lovely strawberry tang: a flavour that makes them a favourite for fresh eating straight from the tree.
Ready to pick in early September, Summer Reds are excellent for snacking, adding to salads, or making into smooth applesauce. While they shine when eaten fresh, they'll keep well in cold storage for up to one month.
Developed in 1961 by the Summerland Research Station in BC, this charming variety has proven itself in Alberta gardens and across the prairies, a quiet success story in Canadian apple breeding.
